Hmmmm....does this remind anyone out there, who can still remember, of all the people who were witnesses who died suddenly from heart attacks and suicide shortly after the JFK assassination?
Anyone think Bhutto was a total set up by Bushco? I do.
And to think that we all believed that Karl Rove retired. Hell, Cheney is going to get his wish, he finally bishoped Condi afterall and the perpetual war will continue. I'll tell you though, I have a very bad feeling that this is going to come back and bite Bush in the ass, which means despite how much we loathe him, as Americans, we will all be implicated.

Who were her enemies and who would gain ?
Mushariff, supported by the Bush Administration.
Zealot extremist religious Muslim leaders.
The very highest of Corporate and Military leaders in Pakistan.
Second question:
Is Mushariff REALLY in control of the Pakistan Military? Answer, nope.
Third question:
Who was suppossed to be guarding her? Answer, the Pakistan Miltary. Wow, that's like having the fox guard the henhouse.
Fourth question:
Who heavily finances the Pakistan Army? Answer, George Bush.
Fifth question:
Is Mushariff in bed with the fundamentalist radicals? Most likely. He sleeps with anyone he can.
Sixth question:
Where was Cheney and his lap dogs?
And final question:

Hang in there everyone.

'twas the night before Christmas,
and all through the house
not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse.
And so that is exactly how it is in Rosarito Beach this morning, not one cop on the street, no tourists, no traffic, dead calm.
This will be my last post for awhile, we're having folks in, and just wanted to say again to all of you, have a peaceful and Merry Christmas.
Maggie
Ok, here's the scoop from Mike who had to go into town again and pick up somemore Concha Y Torro.
First, there are no touristas.
At the first intersection coming into Rosarito from the north, 2 stake bed trucks with heavily armed PFP. The PFP replaced the PFJ I think it was back in 1999. Anyway, these are the FEDS, and supposed to be the good guys, they are supposed to be the least corrupt.
At the Office Depot parking lot, 6 pickup trucks and about a 15 visible heavily armed officers, and I don't know who these guys are. Their trucks have a navy blue insigna with a wavy gold band going through it.
At the intersetion of Calimax, half a dozen Rosarito Police, checking vehicles.
At the intersection of Constitucion, a dozen PFP Officers stopping vehicles from the south.
Foot patrols of Rosarito Police patrolling the streets, and not just in the tourist sector. Many Rosarito Police patrolling streets in trucks.
No Mexican Army posted at the Rosarito Police Station.
Far south end of town unknown, but I need some Ceviche, so we'll find out about that area later tomorrow.
I really wanted to go to Midnight Mass, but I'm a little bit hesitant.
That's it for now, thanks Mike for the update.
Hi everyone, here are some updates on the Rosartio Beach Assault. First, Mike had to run into town today and get some propane.(We had a freaky rogue storm last night, crazy) He had just left Smart & Final, gone to Zeta for gas and was returning. He said there were at least 70 FEDERAL Police, about a dozen squad cars, all carrying shotguns and automatic rifles, wearing bullet proof vests. They were on both sides of the street (Boulevard Juarez) stopping cars. It appeared as if some of them were combing the neighborhood to the west by Ma Williams looking for something. At first he said he thought, another shoot out. Lucky it was not. He said it looked like a spur of the moment thing, and people were apprehensive, they didn't know what was going on. He didn't go down to check out the Army posted at the Police Station, but I have to go and pay my H20 bill next week, which is right next door, so maybe I'll see something.
Speaking of Ma Williams, his stateside businesss location is in Hemet and he is such a good Democrat. If you're looking for a Modular Home, and he has them all, check him out. Years ago we were thinking of buying a lot and putting a Modular Home on it down here but instead bought this. Anyway, what a neat person he is.
Not exactly that many of you will consider moving here with this violence, but maybe you'll find a lot somewhere in Cuyamaca or something.
Meanwhile, there is a new paper in town, La Verdad. I could not find a link to this on the net, and there was no publication data in the paper, so who publishes it, if it is related to Torres papers Ecos de Rosarito or Baja Times, no se. But, front page was Hugo Torres who said regarding the assailants, " Sabemos quienes son. Saben quienes son, pero no tenemos las pruebas." We know who you are, but we don't have the proof. Another article "La gente no le teine confianza a los policias: CANIRAC", ( The people have no confidence in the Police) which is highly critical of the Rosarito Police for being unattentive to the problems of the general Mexican population and neighborhoods and whose focus is mainly on the gringo tourista getaway places, restaurants and hotels. Wow, that sounds familiar; sounds like San Diego, the insiders who built San Diego up for the tourists and the very very wealthy and let the inner city deteriorate. So, reading some of these articles in La Verdad, I don't think it is a Torres paper, but I might be wrong. They also covered the funeral of the Police officer who was killed which was terribly sad.
Don't miss Nancy Conroy's coverage in the Gringo Gazette and especially her editorial, and she is 100 % correct:
TEXT
And, from the Union, more coverage of the details (BTW thanks Anna - my humble opinion is that her hands were tied for a long time by the conservative Union as far as reporting the realities of crime down here, but it is so out in the open, they cannot conceal it anymore)) of the assault:

And then, I'm going to indulge in an eggnog with some bacardi gold rum and a dash of nutmeg. Let's hope it stays quiet on the front.
Goodnight from Baja California.

You guys still have time to make this one, you can squeeze it in and it is so good! Infact, I think it's better than Colin Street Bakery ! (wow those are pricey) Okay, here we go:
BEST FRUIT CAKE EVER !!!
1 Cup Butter
4 Large Eggs
1 Tsp. Baking Powder
1 Tsp. Salt
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 or 2 Quarts Whiskey
1 Cup Sugar
2 Cups Dried Fruit
2 Cups Chopped Walnuts
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
4 cups Sifted Flour
Before starting, sample the whiskey to check for quality. Good, isn't it? Now go ahead. Select a large mixing bowl, measuring cup, etc. Check the whiskey again, as it must be just right. To be sure the whiskey is of the highest quality, pour one level cup into a glass and drink it as fast as you can.
Repeat.
With an electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one tsp. of thugar and beat again.
Meanwhile, make sure that the whiskey is of the highest quality. Cry another tup. Open second quart, if necessary,
Add two arge leggs, two cups fried druit and beat till high. If druit gets stuck in beaters, just pry it loose with a crewscriver.
Sample the whiskey again, checking for tenscisticity. It really doesn't matter. Sample the whiskey.
Sift 1/2 cup of lemon juice, fold in chopped butter and strained nuts. Add 1 bablesppon of brown thugar or whatever color you can find and wix mel. Grease oven and turn cake pan to 350 gredees. Now pour the whole mess into the coven and ake. check the whiskey again and bo to ged.

If you caught Robert's remarks yesterday evening, he informed us of this attack & had the inside information of who the target was. Holy cow, I was in town when this happened, with my Holy dirt !!!
Meanwhile, the Mexican people are furious over this crime tsunami, and we need to support them and give them credit for organizing against the gangstas. Too little press in the States is doing this, if you read most MSM papers, you would think the Mexican people are just standing idle with no reaction. I am guilty of in the past of rolling my eyes over the complacency of "ni modo", and you know what, I was wrong.
If the Mexican people have the cojones to march and strike and protest over being victimized by crime, just think what else they are capable of, so if you go to Midnight Mass light a little candle for them, and if I hear one more "build the fence" crack, I'm going to puke.
Speaking of fences, did you know that it is costing the American people BILLIONS to
support this outdated strategy? Of course, this is Duncan Hunter's baby, and it will not die a horrible death, even though we have technological capability of sensors and cameras which can accomplish the same thing, and in fact, are already in place. Right now as we speak, the National Guard sits for hours and hours watching the cams. Yes, I think we need to protect our Borders, what country wouldn't??? But you guys who are screaming "build the fence", and I don't think you are using that as a metaphor, are dumb as dirt, sorry.
Elect new officials who will work in an international effort to protect everyone, not just your sorry asses.
So, here's the SHORT story from the Union, without all the juicy details, and thanks again to Robert and Alejandra for the original scoop:

BTW, if Hugo Torres can turn this arround in this town, maybe I'll change my mind about him...
See you guys later.

I have to post this because it's happening in my neck of the woods. Which reminds me, today I went to go pay my electric bill and I stopped to get the car washed. The owner of the car wash and I struck up a conversation, and he reminded me of all the kidnappings that were going on around here. Well, I thought I already knew about that, but what he told me was that these are stories that are NOT making the press, kidnappings, especially around Christmas time of Mexican small business owners. He told me that the kidnappers are asking $10,000 - $20,000 per person. He also told me that this happens alot during the Holidays, so that the kidnappers can buy their families Christmas presents. And, he told me the ones orchestrating these kidnappings are the Police. Now, whether this is true or not, I really don't know, it could be just a local rumor going around, but he sure acted as though he believed it.
The point is, whether you believe him or not (and you know, I've never really known a Mexican to confide political or social problems to an unknown gabacho) crime is out of control in the Borderlands.
I had to ask myself after reading about our Agents shooting tear gas into Mexico, what would happen if the situation was reversed, what would happen if gringos attacked the Mexican Police or the Mexican Army by throwing rocks and shooting pellets at them?
Gosh, here's an idea: Mexico, start taxing the wealthy Mexicans so that you can provide infrastructure for your people and pay your Police Officers a decent living wage so that they don't have to resort to organized crime to feed, cloth and house their families. Just think, maybe if you PAID them, they might be able to control the gang guys and restore peace to the Borderland communities. DUH. And for the thousandth time USA, legalize the dope and create education and treatment centers. DOUBLE DUH. Can someone tell me WHY the simplest solutions that even a child could figure out just go right past our so-called lawmakers? Sometimes I think the USA and Mexican officials are strung out on drugs, bunch of nimwits and fucking idiots and retards. Shit, I also think that none of these lawmakers made it past the fourth grade.
Meanwhile, we have this, thanks to the failed policies on both sides of the Border:

Looking for that special gift for that special someone? Check this out, bizarre but I guess the condition our world is in, maybe realistic. I mean, the possibilities are endless. Just think what would have happened if the guy who got the shit beat out of him at the Washington DC anti-war rally by Duncan Hunter's Band Of Losers would have had one of these, or maybe if his friends would have had one of these. WOW.
I'm taking a second look, maybe with this and the Holy Dirt & Holy Water from Chimayo we'll be okay down here FOR AWHILE. I could douse whoever with the Holy Water and taze them at the same time. I could say something like "....in the name of the Taze God I compel you to stop." Well, I guess it's not as bad as waterboarding.

Dear San Diego County Board Of Supervisors,
This morning when I was checking my email, I received this story regarding Blackwater. Checking with the local San Diego newspaper, I could find no mention
of this latest testimony against Blackwater, so I am forwarding you a copy in hopes that you will read it.
We are all keenly aware that yours will be the final decision regarding the land use in Potrero by Blackwater. Although the State Department has granted Blackwater ammunity against prosecution for murder and other crimes, perhaps this latest testimony might give you pause before you issue the land use permit.
If not, pictured above is a tee shirt from Blackwater; maybe if you do grant them permission to operate, you should wear this to your future meetings and around your neighborhoods so that your affiliation and condonement of this group can never be swept under the rug and just forgotten.
Afterall, the whole world is watching.

Well, obviously we have just been having too much fun around here, time to get serious. Wait a second though, if you can get your hands on some of this, by all means do ! You can pick some up at any of the Calimax stores down here - it's Reservado Concho Y Toro Merlot, from Chile. This is so smooth, we made lasagna yesterday ( it took hours) and had this with dinner, wow, and I am looking forward to
a little nip tonight. About $7.00 a bottle, the pic above are the vineyards in Chile. If you seriously want some, and can't get ahold of it, leave a message and I'll get some for you before it's all gone. Wow, I wish I were thirty years younger, but I do have a battle scar from yesterday, I think I pulled a ligament in my neck. Are there ligaments in necks? heehee.
Heh, see you guys later, I need to pull out the old hot water bottle.
Ok, I really got chilled and I'm pooped out. We left very very early this morning, my neighbors and I, they are Mexican nationals and thought we could buy our way into Salsipuedes, but no dice. So we went to 3M's and it was cranking. The wind picked up around 10:30 and it was icy. Excellent waves, not as large as I thought they would be but powerful. Also, I pulled something in my neck, ouch it hurts.
going to go take a hot bath and put on some voltaren creme.
You know what though, the Salsipuedes thing is just another indicator of how truly fucked up it has become down here, it really is over, what a shame. So, tell me, who really wants to live in a condo on Salsipuedes with the freakin LNG plant just offshore and the unguarded pipeline running right behind you and the totally polluted Ensenada Bay just down the road? You've gotta be outa your mind. What a fucked up mess. Time to move on, but shit, we have to wait for Mike to retire. Oh well, see you guys later.
P.S. Just got out of the tub and ate some triscuits, but I was thinking, you know by Mexican Law, the public access to Salsipuedes cannot be blocked indefintely. The developers will have to provide public access, that's the law. Same for all these other places, which most Gringos do not know. Remember how they had to take the gates down at Baja Malibu and Punta Bandera? Even here, at SADM, the Homeowners Association run by a bunch of greedy American Realtors tried to enforce an edict for people to hand over their Drivers Licenses at the gates. Well, that's illegal. They tried it on one of my Mexican neighbors and he read them the riot act, you can't do that. It's bullshit, and if you don't know the law or the language, you'll probably be stuck paying mordida just to access a beach. And, BTW< NEVER NEVER NEVER relinquish your Driver's License, wow that takes the cake.
The public access down in Punta Banda is a little tiny sidewalk between the Villarino's and La Joya, but you would never know it, because you can't see the sign and there's nowhere to park. Pinche place anyway, you will walk right next to open overflowing sewer lines.
So, unless the law changes, which is doubtful, after they build their condos and totally fuck up the environment, they will have to provide public access, bottom line. That is, if you still want to go there after it's all fucked up.
See you guys later, I need a nap.
Forty some years ago, Ed Rosenthal told us kids that this coast would be totally developed with condos and high rises. He was right.

Wednesday High Tide: 5.8 @ 6:07 AM
Thursday High Tide: 6.1 @ 6:33 AM
And, here is the Holiday Booze Cake Recipe because I won't be around for a couple of days. Wrap it with some pretty holiday seran wrap and put a little bow on it, great for gifts, I'm making about six of these and putting them on some Spode dishes I got from London for presents. The plates are really neat, they are the Spode Billingsley Rose red mark, and they made it through the blitz on London during WWII.
Holiday Poppy Booze Cake
You will need an angel food cake pan for this .
1 Yellow Cake Mix
1 small (3 ounce) package of instant butterscotch pudding
5 eggs
2 large tablespoons of all purpose flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 and 1/2 cups of dry sherry
1 and 1/4 cups of vegetable oil
1 bottle jar (2 0z) of poppy seeds
Pre heat your oven to 350 degrees
Oil and flour the cake pan.
Separate your eggs, save the yolks and beat the whites until stiff.
Mix together all dry ingrediants, the oil and booze.
Whip in the egg yolks and egg whites.
Beat on high for 6 minutes.
Add the poppy seeds, and beat an additional 2 minutes. the batter will be thick, that's okay, that's how it's supposed to be.
Pour into the angel food cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for one hour.
Remove from oven and let cool for about ten minutes.
Tap the sides, and turn the cake over onto a plate.
Dust with sifted powdered sugar. Drizzle about 1/4 cup more of sherry over the cake and dust again with the powdered sugar. Let the cake stand for at least 24 hours before serving.
It freezes well for snacks too.
Okay, that's it.
I hope I don't get creamed out there, and BTW, just south of the old 3M's will be cooking too. And, wasn't Bush an asshole again today regarding Iran? Oh well, fuck him, see you in the water.
heehee.
P.S. road to Salsipuedes is pretty muddy after rain, be careful.

First of all, to all of you out there suffering in these storms,be careful please and we are watching and hoping the best for you guys. We might get some rain this weekend, and we are getting a west swell which means Salsipuedes might be okay on Wednesday. 2 tablespoons lukewarm water
1 cup lukewarm milk
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) soft butter
1/2 cup sugar

In a large bowl sprinkle the yeast over the warm water, stirring to dissolve, then add the milk and set aside.
Sift the flour with the salt. Work in half of the flour and beat until smooth.
Creme the butter gradually adding the sugar. When light and fluffy, blend in to the first mixture. Add the whole egg and the egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Work in the remaining flour by hand.
Place the dough in a greased bowl (grease with butter) and grease the top of the dough with some melted butter, cover with a towel and let this rise in a warm draft free place until double in bulk, about 2 & 1/2 hours.
Meanwhile, make your prune filling: (this is where "sugar plum" comes from, really old European)
Cook the prunes, stirring in cinnamon and sugar. You don't want these to be runny, nice and thick, if runny, drain them. Set aside. Have your butter melted in another pot and set aside.
Have a cup of coffee.
Okay, your dough should have risen to double in bulk. Take your fist and punch it down. Turn it out onto a floured board and roll it out, a little at a time. Roll it to about 1/4 inch thickness. I just use a water glass turned upside down dipped in flour, and cut circles. Place the circles about 1 and 1/2 inches apart on butter greased cookie sheets.
Cover these up again, I just use a clean tee towel, and let them rise again until double in bulk in a warm draft free place, about a half hour.
With your thumb, make a deep depression in the center of the circles and fill with the prune filling, or cherry filling or poppy seed filling and add a walnut to the top, kind of squish it down into the filling.
Let them rise again for ten minutes.
Bake in 400 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden, one cookie sheet at a time. Mine usually take about 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and let them sit for a couple of minutes. Now, transfer them to a wire rack or plate, and brush them good with the melted butter,( use a brush or paper towels) top with the flaked coconut and sprinkle them with sifted powdered sugar.
These keep well and can be frozen, your friends and family will love you forever for making these.
Tip: If your hands get sticky and gooey, just add abit of flour and rub them together.
GOOD LUCK.
Tomorrow I'll give you the poppy booze cake recipe, which is a killer and also makes good gifts.
Take care everyone.

Well, we missed the snowstorm thank god, I was freezing the whole time and now it is freezing here on the coast. Apparently there was quite a rain storm here, it washed all the Santa Ana dust and dirt off everything and it is a huge mess. But, listen guys, I know it was cold, but I have to tell you, truly spectacular and beautiful country. We looked and looked and looked and drove and drove and drove. Santa Fe and Taos are too expensive, but I found a house I loved in Farmington, with a pool. So, it's either Farmington or Cayucos, but we defintely do not want to stay here, Baja has gone down the tubes. And we always thought this was going to be it, spend half the year up here and half the year down south, but it is just getting too damn scary in Baja. We were talking about how lucky it has been that we haven't been victimized down here yet, but the odds are not in our favor, and that's not being paranoid, it's being realistic. We will never see an end to this crime, it will increase, until they legalize the drugs in the USA and that ain't ever going to happen. Isn't it weird, everyone came from the east out here and I think I'm one of the last natives to give up on the sinking ship.
The only thing I feel bad about is that I learned the RFK, Jr. has endorsed Hillary. Well, maybe she promised him he could be the head of the EPA, which would be nice. And, Dennis Kucinich will be in Los Angeles this coming weekend, but after spending beaucoup money on gas, I don't think I can afford the cover.
I have to unpack, do laundry, pick up the cat, start thinking about Christmas...and I need some industrial garland, where can I get that? My garland is so worn out and I don't think I can salvage it.
And, I need to make some Kolaches and I'll give you the recipe later on, you have to make these. I grabbed some mincemeat in Colorado because last year there just wasn't any in San Diego and the year before that I had to special order it from England. and what happened to my wave pic? It's gone, I have to fix that.
The big question is....would she be able to take the snow?! It's so alien, so out of character, so cold... but shoot, I could learn how to snowboard, that might be kind of cool.
heehee.
See you guys later.
