Just A Few Comments On A Warm Sultry Evening: Mexico Teacher's Union Demonstration, Red Tide and Noaa

Okay, well I'm out of here tomorrow, I have to buy a stove, mine finally bit the dust. I'm going to buy one down here, afterall, Acros is part of Whirlpool & Mabe actually makes GE & Kenmores and ships them up to the states. And, I'm going to get one without electronic ignition, because the electricity is always going out at SADM. So, I'm going to leave you guys with a couple of thoughts.

The first is on the Mexican Teacher's Strike of today. I logged into Sign On San Diego to read their coverage of the demonstration, and it was good, however it didn't mention the demonstrators at Mexicali pushing the policia, pretty rough, channel 12 down here had footage of it. Still, the focus of the SOSD articles were on the San Ysidro and Otay crossings, and they did a good job. The thing that struck me on SOSD was the comment section. I could not believe the yahoos and rascist remarks from Americans towards the Mexicans.

What the Americans just don't get, is that before, after the Mexican teachers would retire, they would go out and pick up another job, they had to, and it was good for them because they would have additional income to supplement their retirement. These teachers are not paid on the same scale as US teachers, far from it. Not to mention other benefits which were cut. In addition, the protest allowed for workers and commuters to cross the border early to get to work and the whole thing was over with early, so workers could return home. So, I support the Mexican teachers. What I would suggest to these Americans who were so inconvenienced by the border closure - and remember - we are supposed to be boycotting the San Ysidro crossing anyway as an objection to the crime and violence here - is that perhaps they should be more concerned over US Federal employees who retire, and then are hired back as private contractors, through favoritism and the buddy system and are making at least five to ten times as much money as they were being Federal employees, paid by the Federal government at outrageous costs (that's your and my tax dollars) plus receiving retirement benefits. That doesn't seem right to me, I thought everyone had a fair shake and chance at a Federal job, but apparently it depends on who you know. And we are getting stuck with the bill.

And, I hope the Mexican people have more demonstrations, and I hope they have more demonstrations and close the border down as much as they want, afterall, that's where ya gotta hit em, in the pocketbook. Way to go Teachers.

So, next up is a Noah - should it be NOAA Satellite of tropical depression 11, Henriette. Add it to your favs and keep an eye on this one, she's headed up the coast: (wait just a sec for the page to load after the java script)

A NATIONAL DISGRACE INDEED: KATRINA TWO YEARS AFTER

Hi everyone. Well, you can really pick the stories this week, from the GAO report of Iraq not meeting the "benchmarks", to the Active Denial Missile system, to Bush's chest thumping on Iran. But the story which is, I think, the most important is the second anniversay of Hurricane Katrina, because it acts as a barometer of our greatness and strength as a Nation.

If you yawn and ho-hum, you have been defeated and our country has been defeated.

JFK is attributed with many quotes, but these two are are a reminder and a wake up call to all of us:

"Domestic policy can only defeat us; foreign policy can kill us."

"I look forward to an America which will not be afraid of grace & beauty, which will protect the beauty of our natural environment, which will preserve the great old American houses and squares and parks of our national past and which will build handsome and balanced cities for our future."

Yet, watch this video and read the commentary from folks on the street on Katrina, two years after:

TEXT

And, despite some people waving to the President as he visited ground zero a couple of days back listen to this woman's story:

TEXT

What amazes and sickens me is that there are Americans out there who feel and say that the Black and most impoverished communities are just looking for a freebie, a hand out. I wonder how they would feel if this was happening to them? They would be the first ones screaming for assistance. But, we shouldn't have to scream for assistance, none of us. And so, if this is a test of our Nation's strength and greatest, we as a nation have failed miserably. There just doesn't seem to be any glue holding us together at all and JFK's visions have been reduced to simple fantasies, not dreams of what could be.

So, while George Bush & Miss Laura are patting themselves on the back by making the obligatory trek to New Orleans, and boy I bet they were glad to get out of there:

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE NEW REPUBLIC: GONZALES RESIGNS BUSH APPOINTS ROVE ATTORNEY GENERAL

Wow, check this out:

From the New Republic

Gonzales Quits, Bush Appoints Rove Attorney General

by, Dr. Friedrich Gaus
08/27/2007

Embattled Attorney Alberto Gonzales submitted his letter of resignation over the weekend to President George Bush, who today announced he'll fill the post with departing White House adviser Karl Rove.

The president said he selected Mr. Rove because "...he meets the major qualifications for the job by being one of the best arrogant and lying son-of-a-bitch, election rigger out there. He knows how to hide illegal activities, destroy e-mails and habeus corpus, he can obstruct justice like noone else, and he was instrumental in not only authorizing but writing the provision permitting the executive branch to bypass the Senatorial confirmation process. He is the master of privitization contracts, torture facilities, and his affiliation with organized crime and drug cartels surpasses everyone else."

Mr. Rove said he's honored to accept the appointment to such a prestigious position, and he hopes he can "...be effective at the attorney general's main job which is to fuck the people."

Mr. Gonzales, who has devoted the last year to fending off allegations that he fired eight political appointees for political reasons, said he's leaving to "...spend more time with family and return to Mexico to work closely with Presidente Calderon."

He plans to write a tell all memoir about his years at the justice department, tentatively entitled: "I Had No Idea & Why I Am A Sadist At Heart."

Fear And Rumors

Heh everyone, hope you had a nice weekend. I've never taken much stock in rumors, that is, unless I really trust the source. For example, in the very late 1930's, my dad, who was a young China Marine came home on leave and told everyone we were going to go to war with Japan. Everyone laughed - war with Japan? No way! Sort of in the same vein, I'm reluctant to go out surfing at Erendira. Why? Because the water is cold, fish and seals are abundant, and surfers I've known have had close encounters with SHarKs there. So, yea, I'm scared, and the fear is based on rumors from people I trust, and the fact that it is more likely to find sHarKieS in the type of eco- environment you find at Erendira, just like it is more likely you will ShArKies in similar conditions at Steamers and Santa Cruz.

Fear is paralyzing. According to George Gerbner, the former Dean of the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennslyvania: "Fearful people are more dependent, more easily manipulated and controlled, more susceptible to deceptively simple, strong, tough measures and hard line postures...they may even accept and welcome repression if it promises to relieve their insecurities."

We all know by heart how Bush manipulated us through fear after 911 and pre-Iraq invasion, and following the Iraq invasion. Infact, it has become almost laughable as most of us thumb our noses at him and call him the boy who cried wolf. Old stuff, we're hep, we're cool. But are we? I don't know if you have heard the rumors, I started hearing them about six months ago, my husband has heard them from people at work, my neighbors have heard them. And, the rumors go something like this: there will be another 911 strike on American soil, Bush will blame the Iranians then blamo, we are at war with Iran. Martial Law will be declared, and since Bush has been constantly eroding our civil liberties and extending his federal powers and eliminating State powers, voila, we are now in a complete Totalitarian state. Private agencies like Blackwater will control the masses. We are doomed. Another rumor out there is that we are progressing towards an economic depression, which will activate the war machine to profit the bankers, not at all an historical anomaly.

Now, whether you believe these rumors or feel that this is guerilla fringe lunacy and alarmism, you have to admit that our civil liberties have been jeopardized at least by domestic wiretapping, and Bush has made giant headway into Federal power control, and currently we see bank after bank closing, and foreclosures on the rise, none of that can be denied. We see with our very own little eyes the MSM minimizing candidates like Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, that cannot be denied. We see rampant privitization of mercenary and corporate-industrial forces, that cannot be denied. We hear daily about the Iran "menace", that cannot be denied. So, with that in mind, here is a story from CCOTNWO which may interest you, and please refer to the links also. Following up, an essay by Noam Chomsky on propaganda. And my intention with the Chomsky essay is to say that propaganda can work both ways, so consider your sources and always consider the facts, and always ask yourself, who stands to profit ?

WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK - THE FATE OF THE WHISTLEBLOWERS

We talk about, all the time, how corrupt Mexico and other developing countries are, don't we? I remember when we first moved here I used to say to my husband, "Why don't the people do something about it?" DOH, pretty naive.

After reading the following article, my first reaction was, well...what were they doing there in the first place? But, like it of not, the reality is that they are there. My second reaction was, when will the US government start employing these same silencing tactics to the American people at large? This isn't just one example of a system gone haywire, these are many examples of a very frightening pattern of silencing and intimidation.

Now I completely understand why people that I know who work for DHS and see fraud and abuse on a daily basis say nothing, and I understand why, when I ask them, why don't you say something, why don't you report it? And their answer as they look at me like I just fell off the turnip truck is,"...because they will bury you." I used to argue to them, well, do it anonymously. And they would say, "...they always find out who spilled the beans." You mean, I used to say, you won't get an award or something? Shut the f%$#@!* up Maggie.

So, when we start bad mouthing Mexico, let's start to take a long look at our own house of cards.

ANOTHER BONEHEAD BUSH ANALOGY THAT IS JUST PLAIN BULLSHIT; IRAQ/VIETNAM & IRAQ/KOREA

How dumb do you think the Bush Cabal thinks we are out here? If you haven't had a chance to read his speech, here are parts of it with his selective bonehead analogy of Iraq to Korea and Iraq to Vietnam, and throwing in Japan and Germany to boot just to make sure he would cover all the bases as a true patriot:

Bush Cites Vietnam In Making Case For Iraq War:

TEXT

Okay everyone, pull out your History books, because if this isn't one of the most idiotic comparisions, I don't know what is. And just in case you've packed them away, here's Josh Marshall to lend light on the facts :

Osama Is My Shepherd I Shall Not Want
by, Josh Marshall

TEXT

Korea Analogy
by, Josh Marshall

TEXT

Thanks, Josh. I would like to add a few things. Am I losing my marbles here or have I not heard George Bush for years now absolutely denying a corelation between Iraq and Vietnam? Here is an exerpt from his press conference of 04/13/04:(and BTW, this is just ONE example)

QUESTION:

Thank you, Mr. President. April is turning into the deadliest month in Iraq since the fall of Baghdad, and some people are comparing Iraq to Vietnam and talking about a quaqmire. Polls show that support for your policy is declining and that fewer than half of America now support it. What does that say to you and how do you answer the Vietnam comparison?

THE PRESIDENT:

I think the analogy is false. I also happen to think that analogy sends the wrong message to our troops and sends the wrong message to the enemy. Look, this is hard work. It's hard to advance freedom in a country that has been strangled by tyranny.
And yet, we must stay the course, because the end result is in our nations interest.

Here's the link for that press conference:

TEXT

So, suddenly like magic Bush has an epiphany and decides that now of all times, he will make analogies. Well, does the name Gulf Of Tonkin ring a bell out there? Heavens, surely Bush in his intellectual capacity for making analogies could have made that one. Remember, the Gulf Of Tonkin incident was manipulated as an excuse for us to enter the Vietnam war, just like the weapons of mass destruction were manipulated as an excuse and a lie to invade Iraq. Gosh, what a similarity, how could he have missed that one? Does he want to equal the deaths of US troops in Iraq to those of Vietnam? Does he think we should have invaded Cambodia, if so, does this mean that he wants to invade Iran? Does he forget why we went to war with Japan and Germany? Did I miss something, did Iraq invade us? Does he want to end the war in Iraq as the war was finally ended with the axis powers? Does he want to nuke someone?

Oopsie, Bush forgot to use the word quaqmire, which aptly describes which both wars were and are. But, this is even a more dangerous quaqmire, as described by Robert Freeman almost three years ago, and his assessment is right on the mark; perhaps Bush should hire Mr. Freeman to help him out a bit with future analogies:

Is Iraq Another Vietnam? Actually, It May Become Worse.
by, Robert Freeman

TEXT

And more:

Bush Challenged On Iraq-Vietnam Analogy
by, Thom Shanker

TEXT

Finally, this evening, reaction to Bush's speech from the Democrats, however, MSNBC left Dennis Kucinich out of the equation, so I'm wondering really, how much a part of the Cabal are they?

TEXT

George Bush, whose parents bought his way out of the Vietnam war so that he could snort coke and party has no right to even mention Vietnam. Dick Cheney, who had at least five deferments from Vietnam, has no right to even mention Vietnam. So what's up with this? Why suddenly with such a bad track record of his own involvement with Vietnam, is he pulling it out of the hat? Perhaps as a reminder to the purse holders that if we fail (which we already have) they will be the ones left to blame, not him. Or perhaps this is part of the surge spin, a pep-rally for even more entrenchment in Iraq until he gets the Iraqis to sign over the oil contracts to his foreign oil company friends, afterall, he was pretty pissed off that the Iraqis left in recess this August without signing the "deal". I certainly don't buy his sudden sense of moral obligation to the Iraqi people, he's already slain hundreds of thousands of them without a second thought, that fact doesn't seem to bother him one iota.

Goodnight, from Baja California.

HURLING OBSCENITIES - MSNBC PAINTS BOB FILNER WITH A PATTERN

Okay, so here's todays latest on Bob Filner from MSNBC, and noteworthy is the final paragraph which states:

"About a year ago, he hurled obscenities at two Veterans Affairs officials after a breifing about the burglary of a laptop with military personnel information. The VA officials termed the breifing a "publicity stunt" which angered Filner."

Gee, do you think that maybe those two officials were friends of Feinstein's, the do-nothing girl who sat on that committee and that these officials were part and parcel of not only lax protection of confidential information, but worse yet, overseerers of the most disgusting and abusive environs for out Vets?

What About Bob ? (Filner)

Well, I'm sure you all have read the news this afternoon about Bob Filner. Although we live here in Baja, we pay US Federal & State taxes and vote absentee. I have always voted for and I have always admired Bob Filner. When I read the story on MSNBC, I was baffled, but then I read the comments and I was stunned. I even wrote a couple of comments which I was sure would not be published, but, to my surprise they were.

My concern here is that first, we do not know the whole story. Second, the reponse from the population at large was absolutely ignorant and on the level of mob
mentality. Absolutely judgemental without knowing all of the facts, and hateful, I was disgusted, and I really thought for an instant, if this is what the USA is about, then they deserve George Bush and the fascists, they deserve everything that is coming their way.

Conservative readers of this blog, who regularly log in from Reston, Virginia, googled in "Bob Filner Asshole Maggie's Madness" looking for my blog, looking to see what I had posted. These are the same people who read this blog almost DAILY yet never comment. I suppose that this is an example of far right leaning groups of people, the only ones who support George Bush, who are just so frustrated and in a state of shock and denial over the lies and corruption of their own party, they are desperate to grasp at straws and hopeful that a Democrat, especially one of Bob Filner's character will take a hard fall. They are gleeful over this, and it is disgusting, and they are disgusting and shallow and stupid. Where were these people when Bush lied us into a war that is sacrificing our young people and has created a disaster of monumental proportions not only in the Mid East, but throughout the world?

Now, here's the story, and please read the update from Bob Filner's offices, and then I am going to tell you why I admire Bob Filner.

From MSNBC:

First Read:The Day In Politics
Congressman Charged After Altercation

TEXT

And this is why I believe the update from Filner's office which stated,"Congressman Bob Filner is on his way to Iraq, visiting our troops, and will have a full statement when he returns. Suffice it to say now, that the story that has appeared in the press is factually incorrect - and the charges are ridiculous."

That mug shot of Bob Filner, that is from when he was marching in Mississippi for Civil Rights and working with Hubert Humphrey. I doubt any of his nay sayers have ever aspired to such a noble concept.

Bob Filner, along with Chuck Hagel(R), David Price (D), Lois Capps (D), and James Leech (R) called for an immediate dease fire between Israel and the Palestinian forces. Said CAIR Executive director Nihad Awad of this action: "It takes great moral courage for elected officials to ignore party politics and the pressure of special interest groups to stand on principle in a time of crisis."

Speaking of AIPAC, for we all know that Bob Filner is Jewish, seems to me that by his voting no to the following attests to the fact that he has not been bought and sold by AIPAC, as so many of our other elected officials have been, including Hillary and Feinstein and of course, Liebermann:

Let's talk about our Veterans, a passion for Bob Filner, unlike George Bush. At a time when Bush wants to slash the budget for Veterans benefits, Filner is unrelentless and will never let that happen. He is the recipient of numerous awards from Veteran's groups, unlike George Bush. Take a look at what he has accomplished so far, and I ask you, what did Diane Feinstein do for the Vets when she sat on this committee? NOTHING, absolutely freekin NOTHING. And even worse, our very own President wanted to slash benefits for Vets ! Go figure.

It was Filner who sponsored H.R. 1470 & H.R. 612 which both PASSED. These bills would extend the period of eligibility for health care for combat service in the Persian Gulf War or future hostilities to include chiropractic care and services from 2 years to 5 years after discharge or release. Further, he sponsored bills PASSED by congress which provide, "...dental services to all ex-Prisoners of War, improve insurance for veterans, increase the amount of the VA home loan and improve recruitment and retention of VA dentists by increasing their pay. Provisions of his bill eliminate the Military widow's Tax by removing the sodial security offset to the Survivors Benefit nPlan (SBP) for military widows were also passed."

Here is Bob Filner's scorecard from the Peace Majority Report, and I might add, 81% ain't bad, I believe Hillary is rated at 55% :

TEXT

I didn't even mention the environment and the Bajaqua Project, which is supported by the Surfrider's Association and The Sierra Club, a project which Bob Filner has been working on across party lines with Brian Bilbray. This is the BEST thing San Diego has going for it,as far as cleaning up the huge mess we have on our hands from sewage from Mexico and keeping our ocean clean. Yet nasty Diane Feinstein is bound and determined to undermine this project, she and her corporate cronies.

Until I read and hear the report of what exactly happened at the airport today, I am standing in Bob Filner's corner, unlike the salivating wolves out there, because you know what, this guy has got principles unlike any of the neo-cons and he has proven it over and over again.

I know this, he is NOT the sweetheart of the big corporations or the crooked politicians, and I also know this, there are sure a lot of freekin dumbshits and lowlifes in America judging from the majority of responses to today's newsreport from MSNBC.

Goodnight, from Baja California.

PRESIDENT FOR LIFE

Oh brother, you are not going to believe this one. I was making the rounds this evening, and I clicked on Black Listed News and saw this story. After reading it I thought, do I really want to blog this, this so called think tank sounds like a bunch of looney birds.

Then, I went over to WRH, and there was the story again, giving a link to Crimes & Corruptions Of The New World Order. The interesting thing about the reprinted article at CCONWO was that ck4829 broke down who exactly these looney birds are. Unfreekinbelievable, all of our favorite assholes !

So, here is the original story from Black Listed News, and click the highligted link "Conquering The Drawbacks Of Democracy", by Philip Atkinson. Next, click "cached text", which will bring up the article.

Now here's the killer, get a load of who is envolved with Family Security Matters:

BUSH AND IRAN

Well, sure looks like Bush is fucking it up big time, and it's not just the intertube
users who are concerned. Finally, some reaction to his reckless labeling of the Iraq Revolutionary Guard as terroists from USA allies, former National Security Advisors (under Reagan for cryin out loud) the Carnegie Institute, and foreign affairs experts - you know Bush, people with brains instead of marbles like you have upstairs. Not to mention, woohoo the Iranians themselves, follow the link to this one in the article from the Washington Post. Dennis Kucinich did not mince his words, he never does.

I don't know about you guys, but despite the articles and interviews from MSW and the Desert Peace Blog a couple of posts back, I didn't sleep very well last night.
