Hope you all had a nice weekend. This is just going to be a fluffy blog, a bit about California. I know, the heat is on Gonzalez and our country is falling apart at the seams, we'll deal with that later.
We moved out of California because of the crowds, the traffic, the bad air. I was a San Diego native, Mike was from Chicago. Infact, prior to living in Mexico, we had bought & lived in a locale for over 10 years way out in what was then the boondocks, Ramona. We lived outside the water district, so we had our own well, a few acres, gorgeous oak trees, and practically abuted the Cleveland National Forest. We fought for the remaining open space in San Diego County, against proposed reservoirs and dumps, really worked our butts off to keep it OPEN. When Mobil Oil bought up the old Jimmy Cagney Ranch behind us to build 2,000 homes, we knew we were doomed. Not the lfestyle we wanted, so we sold out and moved to Punta Banda, which was, at that time,a beautiful place.
I think the worse thing about California was the sprawl, every special place that I knew of, had been ruined. And, you know what, it wasn't just the Californians who were multiplying like rabbitts, it was the invasion of tourists from every part of the US who decided they wanted to stay.
Now, the same dilema is hitting Baja. Infact, we were just talking about that this weekend. What is the draw anymore to Baja? I mean, you can buy a gorgeous home
down below Puerto Nuevo in a gated community for $250,000 - but look around you. You are surrounded by shit. Crime, traffic, congestion, off road vehicles, dirty streets, garbage strewn over the old highway on both sides, poverty, no infrastructure, the hills are clusterfucked with housing and the eijdo is saturated with meth. I guess if you want to stay in your house all the time, it's okay. So, when Mike reties, we're outa here.
We've given thought to hanging in there, and spending half the year down in Mulege, half up here, like the oldtimers used to do. We've given thought to the Carolina's, and I would never move back to California, unless maybe it would be the Santa Cruz area. So, we're looking at New Zealand.
Meanwhile, alot of Californians are scampering for a better quality lifestyle, but not exactly being met with open arms. Just a little reminder to the millions in the communities of Arizona, Oregon, Washington to name a few: we put up with your crap for years. It wasn't the Californians who made the market prices swing so high, it was the influx of out of staters who didn't want to deal with snow and cold, whose mommies and daddies opened up their pocketbooks and either paid their downpayments or bought their homes out right for them, plus snapped up thousands of lower priced homes to turn a profit. Most of you were and are Republicans, with money. You hired illegals under the table to clean your swanky homes and care for your children, and when you created business, you hired more of them because you are greedy sob's. You voted against cleaner air and water initiatives, bonds for schools, raises for our Police and Fire Departments. You ignored the plight of our less fortunate in areas like Barrio Logan, and looked the other way while they dredged the San Diego Bay. Oh, you wanted it all, but you didn't want to didn't want to share a dime with the communities. And, you loved sneaky Pete Wilson and Ronald Reagan. Millions of them !! It was an INVASION of dullards and cretans. Well, it's yours now, fucked up thanks to you.
