BIG SINALOA GUY BUSTED

Awhile back, I was reading the San Diego Union and one of the commentaries expressed the belief that Calderon is actually backed by this Sinaloa Cartel and this violence we are seeing is sort of a cleaning the house and putting the new guys in. I had never heard this before, and you know, we don't go around here talking about things like this, it's just not a very smart thing to do.

At any rate, here's the scoop from BBC and La Jornada. La Jornada has a few more particulars to the case, and I asked them what they thought about this theory, or wild rumor, whichever it is, I don't know. La Jornada guys are pretty smart, it will be interesting to see if they print my question and if there are replies to my question. Oh, and someone else commented over on Sign On San Diego that the US State Department had taken Mexico off the"bad" list, places which are dangerous and to be wary of if you are traveling. Mexico is no longer on the State Department's Warning List, but Mexico is on the State Department's Alert List. Mike had to explain that one to me. The way I understood it, was that since Mexico has busted some of these big fish, they get brownie points, hence, they are taken off the "bad" list, which is the Warning List.


But, the weird thing is, we all know that whoever falls, another one immediately takes his place. And, if you buy the theory that Calderon is backed by this Sinaloa group, could this recent bust be a sacrifice - I mean, the guy was in charge of bribing officials, maybe he knew too much? And, if you buy this theory, was this just another attempt by Mexico to stay off the "bad" list and qualify for more monetary aid?

Dunno, maybe Al Giordino knows. Maybe it's smart just not to know.
